Jacob William formed Para Quintet in the early 2000s to explore free improvisation with drummer Laurence Cook, trumpeter Forbes Graham, alto saxophonist Jim Hobbs and pianist Steve Lantner. They performed regularly at a venue in Cambridge, Massachusetts known as Outpost and nurtured a kind of interactive music making that was always spontaneous and completely improvised. Though the instrumental line-up might suggest a leaning on the path breaking jazz quintets of the late 1940's/'50s, Para's music evolved to set its own direction - stretching and balancing traditional elements in jazz, free jazz and creative improvised music. This recording is a formal document of music and context that was shaping itself over several years, and in one studio session of a couple of hours, Para performed exactly as they would at the Outpost - spontaneously and simultaneously sounding-out empathic gestures and rhythms to form instant melodies and harmonies into compositions.

Recorded in highest quality, replicated and pressed on CD from glass master. Comes in high quality card stock package with six panel gate fold and CD housed on the inside panel pocket. Beautifully designed artwork and liner notes printed on layered graphics. Full package shrink wrap sealed for maximum protection.

The sound of every voice to be free, equal and together.

"Dream-silent-ghosts — venetian map — sailor's game — the opal mouth of glass — the milk of night —
These are words for things that have no natural grammar and these are the sounds of words; deep-dwelling organisms breaking surface into the alien regime of the air to look upon the solid earth after the last of us."
